4-Day Safari In Akagera National Park
Safari Overview
The Akagera 4-Day Tour offers a rich wildlife and nature experience in Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s premier savannah park. The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kigali to the park, where you will settle into your lodge and embark on a sunset boat trip on Lake Ihema, offering sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species.
Throughout the tour, you will enjoy multiple game drives, including both morning and night excursions, where you can spot Africa’s iconic wildlife such as lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes. A special visit to Lake Rwanyakazinga will highlight the aquatic birdlife and surrounding fauna.
Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali & Akagera National Park
This Safari begins with a pick-up from Ubumwe Grand Hotel and a transfer to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival at Akagera Game Lodge, you will check in before embarking on a half-day game drive, where you’ll have the chance to spot diverse wildlife species. Following the game drive, you will enjoy a relaxing sunset boat trip on Lake Ihema, where you can witness hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species.

Day 2: Akagera National Park Game drive via lakeside road
After breakfast, you will set off for a morning game drive through Akagera National Park, offering a great chance to spot animals such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes as they are most active during the early hours. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch and a brief rest. Later in the evening, embark on an exciting night game drive, where you can observe the park’s nocturnal wildlife, including leopards and hyenas. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Akagera National Park Full game drive
On this day, embark on a second game drive in an open 4×4 vehicle, which offers an immersive experience for wildlife viewing. Explore the area around Lake Rwanyakazinga, where you will have excellent opportunities to see a variety of water birds and aquatic animals such as hippos and crocodiles. Afterward, return for some rest before heading out for the thrilling night game drive, where you’ll encounter nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat.

Day 4: Akagera National Park back to Kigali
Start the day with an early morning game drive in the Kirara Plains, where many animals, including lions, leopards, and hyenas, are often active during the night. This is a prime opportunity to witness wildlife in action, possibly spotting predators hunting. Afterward, return to the lodge for breakfast, check out, and begin the drive back to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight. Depending on your flight schedule, you may also have the chance for a brief city tour of Kigali before heading to the airport.
